The Holt College Scholarship Program

ABOUT

The Holt Family Foundation currently offers a yearly renewable scholarship program for eligible Louisiana high school seniors and college students. The scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America, an independent national organization. Applications are typically accepted each spring and scholarships awarded in the spring are to be used for the next academic school year.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Residents of Louisiana by the application deadline

  • High school seniors, graduates or current college undergraduate and graduate students

  • Planning to enroll in full-time study at an eligible* postsecondary institution the entire upcoming academic year

  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)

*Eligible postsecondary institutions includes: accredited two-year or four-year college or university, graduate school or vocational-technical college.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Financial need

  • Academic record

  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities

  • Work experience

  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives

  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

  • An outside appraisal

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of the The Holt Family Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

If selected as a recipient, the student receives:

  • A $5,000 award

  • Undergraduate awards may be renewed for up to three years, or until a undergraduate degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Undergraduate students may receive a maximum of four years of funding. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by the sponsor

  • Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study

  • Financial need is the primary factor in selecting the award recipients, followed by academic and other criteria. Financial data is used to determine the award recipients.

Students who are fully funded are asked to decline the award so another applicant may receive funding.There are no honorariums.

  • As part of your application, you must upload the following:

    A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

    Copy of the first two pages of the most recently filed IRS Form 1040 used for the Financial Information Page.

    NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

    One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than TBD

    Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.


NOTICE

Applicants will be notified in June. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Holt Family Foundation. Awards will be paid in one installment in August to the student’s school.
